What We Will
Learn This Week
Math: We are beginning
work on Chapter 8, which covers subtraction facts. Scholars should focus on reviewing the
strategies: using a number line to count back and relating addition and
subtraction facts.
Word Study: This week we
are continuing our work with syllables.
We are also reviewing short vowels and long vowels as well.
Literacy Block: We are beginning a brand new unit: asking
questions! We will learn that as good
readers we ask questions as we read, which questions we should ask, and how to
find the answers.
Writer’s Workshop: Scholars are finishing the writing process
with their newest small moment story.
They have planned their pieces, drafted them, and are now working on
revising and editing them before publishing.
We will have an author’s party to celebrate and share our hard work.
Science: We will finish
our introductory unit to the human body.

Pumpkin
Patch Party
Our
field trip to the Countyline Apple Orchard and Pumpkin Patch was a great
success! Scholars learned how bees make
pollen, how to press apple cider, how to sort apples, where and how pumpkins
grow, and they got to pick their very own pumpkins! We had a pumpkin decorating party in class on
Friday and scholars will be bringing home their decorated pumpkins this week.
